The spacious lodge is nestled in a sought after hamlet of wooden lodges at the base of the Tatra mountains which gives the feeling of total seclusion, yet provides access to the mountains, the local pub and a couple of restaurants on foot. The city of Liptovsky Mikulas is only a 15 minute drive away.
We write in various corners in and around the house and there’s enough room for everyone on the south-facing, sun-trapped decking. If you need to squirrel away with your pen and your characters, there are many secluded spots in the half acre of wooded grounds, not least my favourite, the ‘writing platform’, built on our banks of the shallow river. When the snow is hanging off the multitude of pine trees outside, the wood-burning stove and underfloor heating keep the lodge toasty warm.
Our wonderful friend and guide, Martin, is a fluent English speaking native of the Tatras who is passionate about Slovak history and culture and loves nothing more than sharing his incredible knowledge. Lakes, mountains, caves, ancient villages, museums, spas and everything in between, if you need a break from writing, Martin will transport you to places far from the beaten track, and tell you stories only known to
the most savvy of locals.
